StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

Aug 24, 2010 · - AD authentication. AD support in FreeNAS is sucks. OpenFiler AD support is better (although until group level, I never succeed on individual user level). I never try iSCSI/DFS on both them yet. And I'd like to hear if someone have experience on it. The web admin interface of OpenFiler is better but IMHO that both is not too intuitive.

Feb 02, 2014 · I am also preparing for my DCA and I'm using OpenFiler iSCSI/NFS appliance. I was aware that this wont give me the ability to test any vStorage APIs, so before choosing OpenFiler I went through the blue print and made sure VAAI isnt listed as an objective, or at least, not clearly.

Sorry - by Targets you mean "drives" and the answer is no, not in my environment. I was migrating from an OpenFiler 2.3 to the FreeNAS Mini XL and ran into instability. Opened up a support ticket (referenced above) and the result was that if i turned off the VAAI options under ESXi the situation changed materially. Hence the ticket.

Oct 28, 2012 · Otherwise for VMs iSCSI disk on Synology NAS DS1511+ (Thin Provisioning & VMware VAAI support) My iSCSI was created on Volume (created by NAS), I read somewhere, that is perfromance difference if you first create iSCSI (before any Volume is created). So I am planing (after all backup of NAS) to create first iSCSI LUN, than go with volume.
