Dec 02, 2012 · Just added a couple of new NAS boxes (HP Microserver N40Ls) to my LAN and hit various issues with FreeNAS (stability, bugs).....then looked at OpenFiler.....different issues with that (can't install to USB, wastes an entire HDD). Then I came across openmediavault. It's based on FreeNAS but uses Debian Linux instead of FreeBSD.

Jun 30, 2009 · I'm looking at hardware to build a server to thrown openfiler on to use as a VMware ESX SAN server. Looking for motherboards/setups which support dual PSU's, come with dual and decent NICs, ability to hotswap drives, etc. I'm am assuming at this point that it is cheaper to build than buy a built server outright from someone like Dell or HP.
