the windows version should be 6.3 for 8.1 and 6.2 for 8 I think, and 6.1 for 7. That is correct, but NSIS will not detect Windows 8.1 as version 6.3. The problem is a missing compatibility manifest in the executable.

Well, my installer is working good from several years under Windows XP and Windows 7 with RequestExecutionLevel admin. Installer pops up with UAC dialog each time on Windows 7. Recently on Windows 8.1, I need to manually choose 'Run as administrator' from context menu to work it properly.

Aug 21, 2014 · Also, "b) Its a WINDOWS firewall... that should day it all -_-" doesn't say much to me. The windows firewall is very good as is Windows Defender which comes with 8. The Win 7 firewall is also good and MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) is a good, low impact anti-virus. I just don't see the need for Comodo or McAfee or Norton or Kaspersky.
