Jun 06, 2008 · Question: Q: The POP server “mail. . ” doesn’t support X-APOP authentication. I get this message intermittently which prevents me from receiving email for days at a time. Then, it just goes away. Though now it appears to be stuck on it. i have checked and re-checked my POP account settings and they are all as they should be.

If your e-mail client uses APOP, then the password is encrypted while being transmitted. APOP prevents hackers from seeing your password information with sniffer programs. My question is :Is that the major difference between APOP and POP? Is the password not encrypted when POP protocol is used? If not, will it not cause security concerns?
