This will destroy the connection between the game and the saved data, and make it impossible to save worlds or edit textures, and there's no way to put it back. Leave the minecraft alias on your desktop. Double-clicking it will open the very minecraft folder that you want.

Well, I’ve been digging via my limited Unix knowledge and through my better Mac skills, trying to find where Minecraft has been saving my screenshots. No avail. There is neither a /minecraft nor a /.minecraft directory in my Application Support folder. I’ve been looking for a bit. I give up.

I have the new launcher on the mac, and I have no problems at all. I am running lion, 10.7.5. Do you know what you have on your mac? ALso, try moving the minecraft folder out of the application support folder somewhere else, like your desktop, and redownloading the folder with the new launcher, and then moving your saves back
