My question is, I bought a gamecube style controller for this Wii, one released under the Hive label of third party accessories and it claims to be compatible with both the wii and gamecube. Now my problem is their are no gamecube controller ports on these newer models of the Wii.

I just recently purchased a pre-owned Wii, but it is one of the newer black versions that don't play GameCube games. I have a GameCube so I wasn't too distraught. But it wasn't until after I opened my box that I realized it can't even play with GameCube controllers! Is there a way or an attachment or something so I can use the GameCube controller?

Oct 04, 2011 · B) While the new Wii systems might not have GameCube backwards compatibility you can still play Brawl and other GC controller compatible games on that Wii so for people who like the GameCube controller over the Classic, this is great. C) NOBODY said that the WiiU will not have GC support.

The original Wii supports GameCube games on disc, and has GameCube controller ports hidden under a plastic door. Wii Family Edition. There is an "updated" Wii that goes by "Wii Family Edition" on the retail box. It is identical in many ways to the old style Wii, down to the form factor. However, it does not support GameCube discs or controllers.
