GPT support is necessary for 3TB drive support. Both the ARM ReadyNAS (Duo v2, NV+ v2) and x86 ReadyNAS (e.g. Ultra, Pro) support 3TB drives. These two platforms have strong 3rd party development and it is expected that for the foreseeable future higher quality drives will be able to be qualified over time for these platforms (though firmware updates may be required to add compatibility).

Well that's a shame really, I see no reason to have to keep buying new hardware to just add software support for bigger hard drives, this is a good reason to just build a Linux box in a raid configuration myself if you can not just add simple larger hard drive support to help out your customers. Remind me not to buy Netgear products again.

Unfortunately the v1 is limited to 2 TB drives, so you can't use the Toshiba P300. The HCL for both the v1 and the v2 is dated, Netgear has stopped updating it. You can use WD20EFRX or the ST2000VN000 NAS-purposed drives are a good fit for your NAS, it isn't fast enough to get any speed boost from enterprise-class drives.
