Now I realize that there is no IPv6 support for either product types, and given this thread it gives the impression to me like Netgear have been unable to figure out how include IPv6 support into the current UTM and Switch hardware. Would love to be shown that my impression is incorrect. However in the meantime I am looking at other options.

It's also very dark, but that's because I'm observing Earthhour (I don't think it'll change the world, but I don't mind sitting in the dark that much and there's only me in the house). After my last OpenWRT/AR7 experiment I thought I'd bricked the Netgear.

OpenWrt, DG834G v2 and ipv6 ... had to restore the Netgear firmware a couple of times now. Trying a few other options. Will provide an update if I make any progress. ... This lack of hardware support for ipv6 seems to be the biggest "stumbling block" for consumer use of the protocol.

It'd say DG834G or DG834Gv2 or DG834Gv3 and so on. RFC 1483 full bridge mode is supported and can be access from a hidden page. However, RFC 1483 full bridge mode is only available on the original DG834G and DG834Gv2 and DG834Gv3. This has been confirm by a Netgear tech support representative on Feb 2011.
