Second Level Address Translation (SLAT), also known as nested paging, is a hardware-assisted virtualization technology which makes it possible to avoid the overhead associated with software-managed shadow page tables.. AMD has supported SLAT through the Rapid Virtualization Indexing (RVI) technology since the introduction of its third-generation Opteron processors (code name Barcelona).

Intel introduced a comparable feature in their Core i7 processors, and they dub their nested paging (SLAT) technology Extended Page Tables (EPT). With nested paging (SLAT) support, along with improvements in VM-entry/VM-exit latencies, hardware-assisted virtualization now outperforms binary translation in most situations.

Dear all, I would like to know what intel processors have EPT (HAP - Hardware Nested Paging) support. I spent some time searching in the net but I found no clear results. I see that VirtualBox supports now EPT for amd (npt) processors and I guess also for intel processors, but I am unable to find what processors have that feature.

Now you are ready to install nested ESXi VMs as well as run nested 64-bit VMs within. If you have followed my previous article about How to Enable Support for Nested 64bit & Hyper-V VMs in vSphere 5 you may recall a diagram about the levels of "Inception" that can be performed with nested ESXi. That is, the number of times you could nest ESXi and still have it be in a "functional" state.

They now call it rapid virtualization indexing (RVI). Intel added support for nested paging, which they call extended page tables (EPT), with their Core i7 (Nehalem) processors. If nested paging is enabled, the Oracle VM VirtualBox hypervisor can also use large pages to reduce TLB usage and overhead. This can yield a performance improvement of ...

Dec 18, 2018 · The reduced performance is to be expected. Nested paging for Nested virtualization is a feature that is not yet implemented. Having an AMD-Ryzen CPU (or newer) is an advantage because VirtualBox supports Virtualized-VMSAVE/VMLOAD and Virtual-GIF …

Nov 30, 2008 · If the host hypervisor is an older VMware product, or if your host does not support EPT or RVI (but it does support Intel VT-x or AMD-V) you can still run nested guests without virtualized HV. However, you will only be able to run 32-bit nested guests using binary translation under a …
