Jun 26, 2016 · First I tried an AE1200 usb wifi dongle, and it said it couldn't open monitor mode. Looking into it, it was due to me having to use ndiswrapper just to get it to load up. Apparently ndiswrapper doesn't support monitor mode because it uses Windows drivers, which cannot support monitormode because Windows won't allow it.

Dec 08, 2011 · NDISwrapper. NDISwrapper cards are NOT SUITABLE for base-station use - they don't do master mode. NDISwrapper is basically a layer of interfacing glue to use Windows drivers with Linux, and so it denies access to some of the more interesting &/or esoteric functions of the wireless card (because NDIS has no programming interface for them, I guess).
