Detachments were also established at Can Tho (and later moved to nearby Binh Thuy), Nha Be, Vinh Long, Sa Dec, My Tho, Tan Chau, and Long Xuyen. Stationed in Vinh Long April 1967-April 1968 Engineman/ Fireman. Repairing all boats and landing craft in support of the River Patrol Squadrons. Up to the night of Jan 30 1968 we seemed to be in a state of suspended animation from the rest of the war.

This is the starboard side of the YRBM16. When I was on the YRBM 20 in 1969 and 1970 I traveled past this YRBM many times. The YRBM 16 was located on a wide spot in the Bassic river upriver from the YRBM 20 and near the town of Chou Doc and the Cambodian Border.

This is the Binh Thuy Naval Support Activity Base on the Bassac River in the middle of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. I believe it was 5 miles up river from Can Tho on the south bank. A public highway runs through the middle of it. I hitched a ride 40 miles by jeep from the Airport at Long Xuyen to Binh Thuy.

This is the Nha Be Naval Support Activity Base on the Song Nah Be river in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. I believe it was 5 miles down river from Saigon on the south bank. A public highway runs to it from Saigon. I hitched a ride in a Chevy Impala for a trip there to get my debarkation orders signed.
