It's close to impossible for a distribution to have packages for all viable combinations of configure options; That's what ABS is good for, compiling your own package with any non-default options with a minimum of fuss.

May 16, 2013 · Currently, the "Skinable GUI" option in the interface preferences is grayed out and not selectable. Which files need to be installed for that to become available? I'm using SMPlayer 0.8.4 in Gentoo Linux. I also tried the "live" ebuild, which fetches sources from SVN, but it has the same problem.
