To support the latest C# features and C# debugging on the new .NET 4.6 scripting runtime on macOS, we are replacing MonoDevelop-Unity 5.9.6 with Visual Studio for Mac. Aug 10, 2016 · Nor are we removing support for opening UnityScript and Boo projects in MonoDevelop. So it is still possible to use the latest Unity version for developing in UnityScript and Boo. It is code completion for UnityScript/Boo that is no longer available in MonoDevelop 5.9. We recommend that developers use C#.

What's the difference between Monodevelop with Unity, and the one I downloaded? I stupidly read about debugging Unity projects, and grabbed Monodevelop from their site. After 20 minutes of "why isn't this working" I realized that my Win install of Unity has a Monodevelop along side it.

I think monodevelop can compile C# because mono is made for C#. I just tested it and I cannot compile JavaScript or boo using MonoDevelop. Edit: When I right click on the file I noticed that the 'quick action' defaults to 'nothing' whereas for C# script it is on 'compile'. I changed a javascript file to 'compile' and it attempted to compile as C#.
