Dec 09, 2019 · I went and downloaded the Zune Software. Only to find that in 2011, MS still don't support FLAC. It looks great, but in this day you can't do that, especially when an open source plugin easily implemented (look at the plugin for WMP) exists.

FLAC is probably one of the best audio codec out there so I would not want to convert them. It would be nice to actually store them on the Zune drive in FLAC format. I will check the Linux forums and see if they hacked it so it can.

On Windows Phone 7 (WP7) there is no FLAC support available in the default Zune media player though playback is supported in third-party applications like a Flac Player. Similar goes for Windows Phone 8. Microsoft Windows 10 supports FLAC decoding in Windows Media Player and other software that uses Windows platform APIs for audio decoding.

Mar 10, 2010 · It won't happen - you can't just flash the firmware to get the good stuff. There is no development support for it and no hacking community who can rockbox it or add third-party decoders. It isn't because the Zune isn't capable, it is just that Zune, part of Microsoft, like Apple and Sony will only support industry standards: AAC and MP3.
