Dec 01, 2016 · When you connect from a Mac using OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite to another computer using file sharing, your Mac automatically tries to use the Service Message Block (SMB) protocol to communicate. If SMB is not available, it tries to connect using Apple File Protocol (AFP).

Feb 16, 2010 · SMB is notoriously slow and/or flakey under OS X. It is decidedly a Windows-centric protocol, and best supported by Windows itself (and, as you've no doubt seen, Linux). My recommendation would be to choose a different protocol. NFS works well. To answer your question, no, I do not think that Mac OS X supports SMB2 yet.

Oct 28, 2013 · Mac OS 10.8 supports SMB just as well as each previous version of Mac OS X has supported SMB: Yes, it's supported, but it was broken at release, and slowly gets better with patches. It's really almost comical how consistently Apple manages to screw up SMB every single time.
