If your CPU has support for AES-NI (i.e., you get results with a command like: grep ^flags.*aes /proc/cpuinfo), then YES, your system will automatically take advantage of that, improving performance on dm-crypt volumes that use the AES cipher. On later kernels cryptsetup has a benchmark action which makes it very easy to confirm this.

I dont have benchmarks, but I do have a system that uses both LUKS2 and zfs native encryption, and it doesnt seem to limit I/O speed by any significant amount of a 1tb samsung 970 pro NVMe disk (which can sustain >2 GB/s). Aug 11, 2014 · Re: LUKS & AES Instruction set Some notebooks don't have AES-NI even though their CPUs support it (disabled by bios). Check /proc/cpuinfo if it has aes in the flags. Then check that your kernel supports it as well, aesni should be listed in /proc/crypto.
