With a ZFS boot filesystem, you just specify the name of the ZFS pool when you create the ABE. Live Upgrade then takes a ZFS snapshot and builds the environment on a clone of it. Because ZFS uses a "copy on write" architecture, you don't waste disk space on duplicate copies of unchanged disk contents in each boot environment.
