Apr 25, 2017 · Microsoft FSX is great a utilizing multiple cores. I regularly see 90-100% of all 4 cores being used. For Source engine games you need to type in the console "mat_queue_mode 2". This will enable the engine's true multi core support. I regularly see about 70-80% of all 4 cores being used. It also gives about a 20-30fps increase.

For example, I would use threading in applications to isolate Windows forms to their own thread, separate from main thread. In order to take advantage of multiple cores when they became available, I would have to explicitly program to that using Tasks (multi-core).

I still get tons of people telling me the 8 cores in the 8350 (or similar) are useless and that most games only use 2-4 cores. Maybe that was true in 2010-2011 but certainly not anymore. This is simply untrue. Here is a list of game engines that for sure use 8 cores out of the box, and so any game made with them also use 8 cores.
