May 20, 2009 · Linux is able to balance the load of all processors in a system, so Linux will be more responsive with more processors. A fast processor is not needed to do graphics work, video encoding, and compiling. The only time when a fast processor is needed is when time is money. I used a computer with a 780G/700SB and AMD Phenom 8650. It works just fine.

Jun 21, 2008 · Author: JT Smith Back in March we had looked at the Radeon HD 3200 graphics found on AMD 780G motherboards. With the Catalyst Linux driver the Radeon HD 3200 had performed about the same speed as the discrete Radeon HD 2400PRO graphics card, which we were quite pleased with considering its integrated and low-power design.

Are either the radeon or radeonhd crews working on support for the 780G chipset (HD 3200) which AMD has now released worldwide? I understand it has been available in China for a month already. The reviews of it look very rosy, although I presume some of the nice features (Hybrid Crossfire) should not be expected in the open source drivers.

Mar 24, 2008 · Aside from these elevated graphics capabilities, the 780G boasts support for 12 USB 2.0 ports, six Serial ATA ports (with eSATA capabilities), and 26 PCI Express 2.0 lanes. Linking the 780G to the AMD Phenom or Athlon processor is HyperTransport 3.0. The AMD 780V/780G is currently paired with the SB700, while the SB750 will arrive later this year.
