Aug 10, 2015 · In kernel modules it was crude practice to control the LED by controlling its corresponding GPIO, this requires, proper pin-muxing is done and in your module you have to do "requesting for GPIO" --> "make sure it is valid" --> "setting as output" -> "setting gpio value to 0/1" to turn OFF/ON.

We would like to control LEDs connected to GPIOs on Colibri i.MX6 using LED support in Linux kernel. Unfortunately the kernel does not export LEDs via sysfs API (/sys/class/leds/) while the device tree seems to parsed correctly.Related part of DTS file:

The brightness file will set the brightness of the LED (taking a value 0-max_brightness). Most LEDs don’t have hardware brightness support so will just be turned on for non-zero brightness settings.
