Oct 05, 2011 · In order to install VMware Workstation 8 the physical machine processor has to have the least configuration: CPU – x86 and x86-64; support in long mode LAHF/SAHF; If you're not sure of the capabilities of your CPU, you can simply use CPU-Z, which you can download for free and which will determine exactly if your system is a 64 bit.

Nov 27, 2014 · According to Intel Manual, LAHF instruction is valid in 64-bit mode only if CPUID.80000001H:ECX.LAHF-SAHF[bit 0] = 1. So LAHF is not invalid in some processor, e.g. Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5460. On such processor, the dr_save_arith_flags generates bad instruction. We got to find another way to save arith flags efficiently.
