As mentioned, Java Sound does not support MP3 by default. For the types it does support in any specific JRE, check AudioSystem.getAudioFileTypes().. One way to add support for reading MP3 is to add the JMF based mp3plugin.jar 1 to the application's run-time class-path.. That link is known to be less than entirely reliable.

Jul 03, 2002 · I want to write a decent multi-media player in Java so I can run it on both Linux and Windows. As of yet however, I have not come across any support in Java for the mp3 format. It supports .au and .wav files, but I have yet to see mp3 support. Does anyone have any experience of working with mp3's in Java? I'd appreciate greatly any help.
