My iphone 4 is not recognized as a portable device when plugged in to a USB port, however it is recognized by iTunes. My wife's phone is recognized by both. I am using windows 8. My phone was recognized as a device until I changed the phones name.

But I have XCode 4.5.1. So when I connect my iphone to XCode in Organizer it says to update the XCode. But very strange thing that some times it suddenly worked and I have successfully debugged. I tried to not down the trick but could not find. It happened many times with me when my device with iOS7 has been connected with XCode 4.5.1.
