    Sep 14, 2016 · iPad 3 does support 5GHz wifi. My router uses separate SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, so you can control which you connect to. I'm not sure whether all routers do this. There's no way to disable either 2.4 or 5GHz on the iPad. BTW, my iPad did not work reliably on the 5GHz network so I dropped back to 2.4GHz.

    May 18, 2018 · Even the andriod phone of my son's friend can detect the 5GHz wifi, only my Iphone 6 plus have problem in detecting 5GHz Wifi. By the way i did try also to restart my modem/router through system (not just by pulling the power plug) and right after the restart all devices in the house can still detect and connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wifi.

If you have a dual-band router that works simmultaneously on 2.4 and 5Ghz with the same SSID then the iPad will pick one to connect to. I found that it usually picked the 5Ghz but sometimes would pick the 2.4Ghz. Once it picked one it would stay on that until disconnected.
