IOMMU is a system specific IO mapping mechanism and can be used with most devices. IOMMU sounds like a generic name for Intel VT-d and AMD IOV. In which case I don't think you can multiplex devices, it's a lot like PCI passthrough before all these fancy virtualization instructions existed :).

Oct 16, 2015 · You should realize that there is a bit of reduced security when the IOMMU is disabled. This is likely not an issue, but what it does is allow the system to specify what part of memory a device can read/write from - preventing a rogue device from going where it shouldn't. Usually this is a problem with USB devices more than others.

Feb 18, 2016 · hi - I tried that, and managed to get it to boot in safe mode... however, IOMMU was still disabled. When booting in normal mode, it throws up an error, detailed in the photo linked below. I know for certain that AMD-v is supported on the CPUs, so maybe the motherboard is the issue? cheers

Dec 11, 2017 · While tracking down a problem in BIOS I fell across something called IOMMU which is set to DISABLED but which is supposedly "...supported in Linux based Systems". I have not a clue what it is, if it should be enabled, if so is there a performance hit, does it suck up memory or release memory, or should I simply leave it DISABLED.

Jul 13, 2015 · How to confirm IOMMU is really disabled. My colleague installed ESXi 5.1 on a remote customer site last week. Due to the crappy hardware he had to boot the installer with noiommu. Since we don't have kvm access to the host I want to make sure it can survive a reboot and not hang during boot (as it does without noiommu).
