May 13, 2010 · Basically, Internet explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 9 doesn’t fully support XHTML files. Internet Explorer 9 would support XHTML files. You'll have to wait until it is released. Meanwhile, you can try the steps mentioned below to open XHTML files to see if you can open it in Internet explorer.

IE7 doesn't actually support strict XHTML. Specifically, if you serve it XHTML with a content-type of application/xhtml+xml , it will go "oh, that new-fangled XHTML stuff, I don't know anything about it," and will treat it as an XML document.
