By this time, the United States had become embroiled in Vietnam and pressed USS Carronade back into service where she was stationed as flagship to Inshore Fire Support Division 93. Her tour in Vietnam ended in 1970 to which she saw her second decommissioning on July 24, 1970. She was struck from the Naval Register on May 1st, 1973.

Dec 23, 2004 · The USS Carronade (Inshore Fire Support Ship IFS-1) was built for the Korean War, decommissioned and recommissioned for Vietnam. IFS-1 Carronade was most distinguishable from other Landing Ship, Medium (Rockets) because she had no forecastle, she was not perfectly flat-bottomed, she was more round on the hull and had a very distinct "sloop" design.
