May 22, 2018 · I found a solution to the eclipse egit plugin install issue. At a high level I unselected the following features from the install - "EGit Mylyn" , "EGit Plug-in Import Support" and "EGit Project Set Support" and then install was successful. The eclipse egit plugin version I ended up using was 2.1.0.201209190230-r.
