I was referring to the lack of proper retina support for full size images Scott. The only option for this with NextGen is to serve the double size image to all viewers. The ‘proper’ way as you know, is to select the appropriate size image by detecting retina and non retina devices.

For our blog, the image width is 640px, so we would upload an image at 1280px width. When you upload the image in WordPress, make sure you choose the image size you used above (i.e. ‘Large’). When you do this, your double sized image will be used for retina screens, but WordPress will create a 640px wide image for you for normal screens.
