I inherited a web application where the front end uses new HTML5 tags (header, nav, section tags) and new CSS3 style attributes (rounded borders). The website looks amazing in Google Chrome and Safari. However, the client now complains the website is broken for IE7 and IE8. Everything is out of alignment and most of the styles do not render.

(Internet Explorer 9 Beta does not yet support CSS3 2D Transforms, but support is planned for a future release.) Internet Explorer 9 was released in March of 2011, nearly 3 years ago. At that time tags like “ weren’t supported in even Chrome, so we can hardly be upset with old IE. CSS selectors are another pain-point, but let’s be fair here as well. Internet Explorer 8 was released in March 2009, nearly 5 years ago.
