The IBM System i is an early generation of midrange computer systems for IBM i users, and was subsequently replaced by the IBM Power Systems in April 2008. The platform was first introduced as the AS/400 (Application System/400) in June 1988 and later renamed to the eServer iSeries in 2000. As part of IBM's re-branding initiative in 2006, it was again renamed to System i.

Jun 20, 2017 · IBM users should be aware that many IBM i Servers (iSeries/AS400) will have hardware support withdrawn between 2019 to 2020. Most notably, these are 9406-520, 9406-525, 9407-515 and 9408-M25. I also have a sense that many POWER6 (8203-E4A) users may not be aware that IBM i 7.2 is the last supported version for them.

For clients that need additional time to migrate to a supported release of IBM i, IBM intends to announce a fee-based extended service offering for the IBM i Version 7.1 operating system. Hardware maintenance is not affected by this announcement.
