Squashfs is a highly compressed read-only filestem for Linux. Release 1.3 adds support for FIFOs and sockets. It also has numerous optimisations and small bug fixes. There are new patches for Linux 2.4.21 and Linux 2.6.0-test1. Squashfs compresses both files, inodes and directories, and supports block sizes up to 32K for greater compression.
