We bought an HP Pavilion dv9000t notebook through HP's website and received it in the mail six days ago. It worked fine for a couple of days,

Need for in-home service is determined by HP support representative. Customer may be required to run system self-test programs or correct reported faults by following advice given over phone. On-site services provided only if issue can't be corrected remotely.

In July 2012, I contacted HP to get my printer working. They did it on line. At that time, I think I paid $79. When talking to tech support, they said they had a great program to tueup your computer for 4 years for $400. They said you could access them 7 days a week, 24 hous a day, even on holidays.
