I brought support up to the granite contractor and he said no support needed as he proceeded to sit on the edge of the counter.

Nov 22, 2004 · Overhang in granite does not need corbels or steel support up to 12 inches. 3/4" thick granite with a 5/8 or 3/4 plywood subtop will cantilever 12" without problems. Been doing this for many years without a call-back.
