Feb 24, 2017 · Does the GTX 1060 support double precision? What is it's double precision throughput in Gflops. I couldn't find any information on this on the NVIDIA website. Is there any table which details the double precision capabilities of the NVIDIA GPUs. The only source of information which I found is external:

Jul 10, 2014 · GPU's excel at doing many FLOPs a second. If you were to expand them to use 64 bits instead of 32, you would be sacrificing a huge amount of space on the chip so that every floating point core could handle it. Generally speaking, for graphics, 32 ...

The A10-5800K does support double precision. An A10-5800K's GPU does about 40Gfps double precision. http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=63628 (Find "A10-5800K GPU") The Kaveri APU will use gcn which supports 1/4 fp32 rate, so fingers crossed we might see ~250 Gflops double precision by the end of the year.

Mind you: not all Radeon 5xxx cards have the same features, e.g. a feature like double precision -needed for Milkyway@home- is *NOT* to be found in a HD 57xx or lower, nor in the HD 68xx series. Radeon cards are not the only cards manufactured by Ati/AMD that support double precision either. ATI top 20 performing cards for Boinc applications

GPUs are really good at doing math. The Achilles heel is when it comes to 64-bit double precision math. GPUs, at least consumer grade, are not built for high performance FP64. This is because they are targeted towards gamers and game developers, who do not really care about high precision compute.
