The mpfr_cmp_q function can behave incorrectly when the rational (mpq_t) number has a null denominator; note that such rational numbers are not canonical, thus cannot be generated by GMP (they are supported by MPFR to represent infinities and NaN with mpq_t). This bug is fixed by the cmp_q-special patch, which also provides testcases.

May 10, 2017 · It would be nice if it was possible to pass these options to the configure scripts since allow it to use a local installation of newer versions of gmp,mpc and mpfr without root rights.

The gmpy module only supported the GMP multiple-precision library. gmpy2 adds support for the MPFR (correctly rounded real floating-point arithmetic) and MPC (correctly rounded complex floating-point arithmetic) libraries. gmpy2 also updates the API and naming conventions to be more consistent and support the additional functionality.
