GIMP doesn't yet support layer comps in PSD, because it doesn't yet have this feature itself. Note that GIMP already has a tagging system for various resources (brushes, gradient etc.). It could be potentially extended to layers and thus provide a superset of what Photoshop allows, thus opening a way for layer comps support in PSD.

Dec 29, 2009 · Well i want to replace my PS with Gimp since PS doesn't support a 64 Bit windows 7. Point is i have all my designs and files in PSD with text layers. So if i could open them in Gimp i could happily switch over to gimp with out a problem

May 01, 2019 · PSD is an Ad*be proprietary image format. Gimp can do some basic conversion but lots of PS features are missing. That includes text layers. The ones you have are no longer text but are now raster (bitmap) layers, the same as the base drawing.

All you need to do is open your XCF file in GIMP and click File > Export. Choose PSD as the file format, and hit Export. Most printing companies will also support TIFF images, and so too does GIMP.
