cups 2.2.2-1ubuntu1 depends on ghostscript, however if I understood correctly ghostscript is a PDF/PS interpreter that is required the we send a PDF/PS to CUPS but the printer doesn't support neither of this formats. For example for printers that provide CUPS driver (aka Raster driver):. But what if I have a PS printer, then no filter is needed and ghostscript should not be invoked.
