Apr 25, 2017 · Anyhow most evidence points towards "multithreaded" games to actually only use 2 cores rather than nCores, where n is an integer like 2 or 4 or whatever. I doubt the source engine is well optimised for multithreading.

Apr 23, 2018 · In many years it will probably end up like "if you play at 144hz 4k you need more than 4 cores on cpu" and "if you play at 60hz 8k you don't benefit much from more than 4 cores on CPU" because games will be GPU-bound and refresh rate bound. Micro-stuttering requires better statistics for …

Short answer is yes for modern games. Most employ one or two extra threads for certain operations. Correct answer though is vastly more complicated. I'll try to scratch the surface. This is not a good question. Multi-threading is not something that can be applied to anything as general as all games or …

Multithreading, put very simply, allows a program to use at least two or more of the available threads in your computers central processing unit (AKA processor). This allows each thread within the processor to work together on a single program, allowing them to process things faster.

Dec 26, 2009 · Re:Games that support multithreading? 2009/12/23 21:12:52 Just to clarify a bit in terminologies, games have always been multithreaded... the recent distinction is if they're optimized for multi-core so that those threads are balanced efficiently to run on multiple cores so that there is a tangible speed-up or increase as a result.

Nov 24, 2013 · If a game is written using 6 threads, the processor would just run 2 threads on a couple of the cores of an i5, or 1-5 threads on each core of an i3. Xbox and PS4 cores are less than half the speed of an i5 / i7 core, so it's easy for a desktop CPU to do more work with less cores.

Apr 05, 2014 · Just get a core i5, hardly any games support hyperthreading. The only reason to get a i7 is for cpu heavy programs, like virtual machines and rendering. Or, if you that type of guy, that likes to have the best of the best just to have it.

Feb 26, 2017 · In the world of 3D product design and 3D printing this can make a huge difference - far greater than any difference due to CPU cycle time. But so far there are very few applications that can actually do multi-threading. It would be nice to see a list of apps that are multi-threaded, since these will run much faster than single threaded ones.
