Sep 12, 2017 · FTDI adapters OTOH, appears to be very stable and offers more options in their driver and that is what I use. Short of the manufacturer telling you which chip it uses, a quick way to tell the difference is the FTDI adapters generally have activiy LEDs but the Prolific adapters don't.
