I have found, when using fsockopen() and the POST method, that using HTTP/1.1 is VERY significantly slower than HTTP/1.0 (at least for the server I'm querying, an Orion-based server). Also, using cURL tended to be faster than fsockopen(), though only slightly. For example, here was a recent set of data (for the same exact request in each case):

I need a hand with fsockopen. I need to do a whois through a proxy (Curl is not suitable for some whois servers, so I can't use it) I have 2 codes that work well, the first one to connect to a whois server with sockopen. The second to call a site via a proxy. But I can't mix the two, I still get the response "HTTP/1,400 Bad Request Server."

it does not work both, on linux web server and on windows (WAMP) development server; MS Outlook and other mail clients perfectly connect to this server and fetch the mail. that day (June 24) we had some issues with GoDaddy SSL certificate - it started to show improper date! We called GoDaddy's support then and they say, the issue is fixed.
