Oct 08, 2007 · I'm trying to use SSL for sending SMTP mail, but I see the "No SSL support in this build" message. I'm doing this on Redhat EL and php is compiled '--with-openssl' as expected. In fact, I'm using PHPmailer successfully on the same server and PHP build with SSL - in a non-drupal script. I'm therefore certain that SSL availability on PHP is not the problem. Any ideas? Thanks

Jun 13, 2006 · Okay, I managed to get the Ajax Spellchecker to work yesterday by hardcoding the path where the module is (Yes, I know that isn't the optimal solution but working is good). The spellchecker worked fine when I left work yesterday, and it worked fine last night when I showed someone it... However, I came in to work today and all of the sudden I'm getting two errors... The first being: fsockopen ...

Warning: fsockopen(): no SSL support in this build If OpenSSL support is enabled, as phpinfo() claims, then what else could be causing this warning? I have spoken to the hosting provider and they cannot see where the problem is. Please note, that this is a dedicated server which I have full remote desktop access to.

The 'OpenSSL support => enabled' is a bit misleading since it just means that the openssl _extension_ is available. But the main PHP is not linked with the ssl libs (win32 binaries provided by php.net) so of course the SSL support is not available...Edin is looking into this so assigning to him.

TLSv1 is essentially the fourth version of SSL, and has widely replaced it as the de facto SSL implementation. – Powerlord Nov 23 '09 at 16:15 Just a comment to make sure that readers know that TLSv1.0 was deprecated for not being very secure, as well as all versions of SSL.

For some reason the default FreeBSD 7.0 port (jailed environment) breaks fsockopen() on SSL URLs, returning a constant stream of nothing! In my case this resulted in php-cgi bringing down lighttpd completely, in rapid time! Avoid FreeBSD/jails/fsockopen + SSL. Use curl_init() instead.
