Feb 12, 2016 · No, tape drive support is available in FreeNAS, as it contains mt(1) and tar(1). In this case I'm using a tape autoloader, so that requires a method to switch the tapes, which requires extra software . A cron job with tar -c /mnt should just work as a very basic tape backup solution.

BSDTar doesn't include multi-volume support (as far as I know), so I need Linux and GNUTar. I imagine there's a way to either A) install GNUTar natively on FreeNAS or B) Setup a docker container that has access to the media and the tape device which can run a Linux container. What's this subreddit's thoughts on the best way of going about this?
