Apr 28, 2012 · Hi guys, I've read somewhere that FreeBSD has TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) support for atheros based wifi cards. Anyone knows what is the status of this implementation and what features are available? I would appreciate any pointers to get more info about this issue. Thank...

It would be good to support MCS rates and TX aggregation - to do it cleanly, it may be nice to first get 11n adhoc support as well as A-MSDU support into net80211. Supporting multiple slave stations would be nice. Read Sam's TDMA paper for some information about this. Map all the data transmit queues to one single hardware transmit queue.

To make the early ISA devices simple and cheap the logic of the bus control and address generation was concentrated in the DMA controller. Fortunately, FreeBSD provides a set of functions that mostly hide the annoying details of the DMA controller from the device drivers.

The driver also support tdma operation when compiled with options IEEE80211_SUPPORT_TDMA (which also enables the required 802.11 support). For more information on configuring this device, see ifconfig(8). Devices supported by the ath driver come in either Cardbus or mini-PCI packages. ... The ath device driver first appeared in FreeBSD 5.2. CAVEATS
