Jul 22, 2016 · Without TRIM support, the amount of Block storage that is used behind a virtual disk does not represent the actual amount of space that is being used by the VM. This means that in my FreeBSD VM, FreeBSD reports that it is using 48GB of a 1TB attached disk. However, my block storage is being reported by Azure as 158GB and is growing by 5B a day.

Feb 21, 2017 · I have no idea how the lack of TRIM in ZFS affects cache performance in the long term, but all SSDs have automatic garbage collection / maintenance routines, so I think the most important thing is to set aside some decent OP (over provision = unpartitioned space) area, like 15-20% of the capacity, and I reckon everything should be fine.

The macOS RAID driver does not support TRIM. This is true for all versions of Mac OS X from 10.7 through macOS 10.12.x. TRIM is supported for RAID (0,1,4,5 & 10) volumes when using the third-party SoftRAID® application, including TRIM support with non-Apple SSD devices.

Normally, I’d go with FreeNAS for something like this, but I’ve never tackled an all SSD ZFS situation before.
