libc_cv_forced_unwind=yes. The linker installed during Section 5.4, “Binutils-2.31.1 - Pass 1” was cross-compiled and as such cannot be used until Glibc has been installed. This means that the configure test for force-unwind support will fail, as it relies on a working linker.

glibc upstream. glibc upstream don't want people to file reports of build problems in glibc's Bugzilla. See Bug #333. Build slowness. The glibc build system is very slow even when nothing needs rebuilding. See this post on bug-make. I have a patch to GNU make which speeds up make's handling of large numbers of rules: rules-speedup branch on Github

The only build which does not succeed is glibc-2.15-2.fc17.src.rpm on armv5tel. Since gcc 4.7 works on an earlier glibc of the same ABI and the current glibc with the v7 ABI, this is probably an issue with armv5tel support in the latest glibc.

Jun 05, 2009 · glibc developers are very unfriendly regarding bugs in glibc build mechanism. For example, I managed to build (non-cross) glibc-2.9, but under exactly the same settings I can't build glibc-2.10.1. While trying to build and test glibc-2.9 I filed a number of bug reports, and dealing with the developers was a disaster.

The combined effect of these switches is that Glibc's build system configures itself to cross-compile, using the cross-linker and cross-compiler in /tools. --enable-kernel=3.2. This tells Glibc to compile the library with support for 3.2 and later Linux kernels.

Can you post the complete output of configure at paste.ubuntu.com, and edit your question to include a link to it? It may also help if you were to include a link to whatever you consider the most relevant LFS documentation to the step during which the problem occurred.

The libc_cv_forced_unwind=yes variable is passed in order to inform configure that force-unwind support is available without it having to run the test. libc_cv_c_cleanup=yes Simlarly, we pass libc_cv_c_cleanup=yes through to the configure script so that the test is skipped and C cleanup handling support is configured. libc_cv_ctors_header=yes ...
