That way the aquarium weight is distributed to as many floor joists as possible. And the closer to the wall the aquarium can be positioned the more total weight in pounds the floor joists can support. An aquarium stand with a continuous runner at the bottom will distribute the weight a lot better than a stand with just four legs.

Jan 14, 2013 · Amazingly, this didn't deter me from owning an aquarium again. I upgraded, but put it on the main level. What I learned was that the floor was supporting the tank just fine, but there was a dip on the left side of the floor causing excess weight on one corner of the tank.
