Onsite requests are usually passed to the 2nd Line Support personnel. 2nd Line Support – The first line of actual onsite contact – Job titles such as Desktop Support, IT Technician, PC Engineer, Desktop Support Analyst. Actual onsite support from the 2nd line is not always the case. Sometimes it is still a remote team with more specific knowledge then the Support Desk (1st line).

Jul 02, 2009 · 3rd line, well wasn't really anything in house I'd have called third line. This was when we'd call up the manufacturer or whoever we had a support contract with. Historically the same big team covered 1st and 2nd, with I guess some people acting as 3rd line when the 2nd line person couldn't fix it but someone else in the team had those skills.

Second line support is a more in depth technical support level. Technicians in this area of support are responsible for assisting first line support staff and investigating escalated issues as well as monitoring the customers IT systems to insure that everything is working at an optimal rate. If the personnel in this group are unable to resolve the issues the support request is then raised up another level to third line support.

Jun 19, 2008 · first line should have a basic understanding, they should be able to fix basic errors , help diagnose and collect information. second line should be able to fix most day to day problems, and help prepare information and diagnostics to be passed on , often second line will have a decent general knowledge and a speciality.
