Oct 18, 2007 · Description Security researcher Stefano Di Paola reported that Firefox did not properly validate the user ID when making an HTTP request using Digest Authentication to log into a web site. A malicious page could abuse this to inject arbitrary HTTP headers by including a newline character in the user ID followed by the injected header data.

Nov 18, 2008 · They are now, so I wanted to use digest authentication so the system is more secure. I have applied digest authentication to the directory, and taken basic off. It works fine in IE 7, but firefox asks for the username and password twice. It never did this with basic auth.

Mar 25, 2005 · Anyone know if Firefox supports DIGEST authentication using the SHA-1 algorithm? I have a Tomcat web server configured that way, and both IE and FF fail to connect, with Tomcat reporting failure to authenticate. When I use MD-5 algorithm, it works. I modified Tomcat to support SHA-1, and I'm trying to figure out if it's my code or FF and IE.

After some trial and error, I found that digest authentication seemed to give me the behaviour that I wanted. That is: allow only users with a valid account on the domain to log in to the website with their credentials. The problem now, is that Firefox (3+) seems to ask for the user to authenticate on every HTTP request sent to the server.
