I see some support in FFMPEG source code (version 3.4) for DNxHR profiles in libavcodec but the libavformat MXF read/write code doesn't seem to have support for the new HR VCIDs (1270 - 1274), essence elements and other MXF container meta data for DNxHR and yet... FFMPEG can read it's own MXF files created with the DNxHR encoder.

Other than that, MXF demuxing should be fully supported in FFmpeg since version 0.5. If you still get errors while transcoding, and you want to transcode instead of just copying the streams, please try downloading a recent static build for your operating system from the FFmpeg homepage.

ffmpeg -i input.mpg -vcodec copy -acodec pcm_s16le -ar 48000 -ac 2 output.mxf You shouldn't need -map with simple input and output files having only one audio and one video stream. These days ffmpeg also knows how to format mxf files and can guess to use that format based on the extension.

Just adding a note here that muxing jpeg2000 into mxf is defined in SMPTE 422m (which defines how MXF can accomplish something similar as the 'colr' atom in other containers).

I did some testing with the software XFConverter i got new at work. XFConverter wraps broadcast files into several containers. After rewrapping these files with the option "Store AVC-Intra header on each frame" set they can be decoded with ffmpeg.
